The next main monument as we pass
along the road into the heart of the city of
Petra is The Theater up ahead on our left
The Theatre dates from before the Roman Occupation
of Petra, and could seat 7000 People.
The Theatre is cut out of solid rock
Carved rock caves just opposite The Theatre
Local Bedouins
Many Bedouin families still prefer to live
in traditional style in cave houses

Continuing the visit after The Treasury,
we proceed down the "Outer Siq"
We saw camels

we come next to the Street of Facades
Tall, impressive tombs, with large facades
or false faces on their fronts.

The Treasury, also called Al-Khazneh
30m wide and 43m high
One of the best known monuments in the
Middle East and the most famous in Jordan

The entrance to The Siq, a narrow gorge
twisting and turning through the rock
The remains of a triumphal arch that used
to span the entrance to The Siq

Deep & narrow gorge of stunning natural beauty
Votive-niches craved into the rock

Many small niches containing block gods of various kinds.


Carving of a large camel and part of a couple of camel drivers
Nabatean drawing or carvings of camels always
indicated where water can be found
Water channels cuts into the cliffs
These drivers can take you all the way through
The Siq to the treasury
The first, and greatest monument of Petra
comes into view at the end of The Siq.

7D6N Jordan: At the gate of Petra

The main gate
Just pass the main gate and walk toward the Siq
Horse ride(USD3) to the siq entrance been offered
but we decided to walk instead
The Djinn Blocks
The first sign that we are approaching something special.
They are huge blocks of stone, lightly craved & also
called "god blocks".
The Obelisk Tomb & Bab As-Siq Triclinium
The top half is a tomb & the lower half is a triclinium,
or "dining room" for the family making a formal visit
to the tomb.
The Dam
It was built by the Nabateans to divert the flash floods
of Wadi Musa to Wadi al-Mataha through the Tunnel
After walk for 20 minutes we are finally at the Siq entrance

Arrived at Queen Alia International Airport, Amman 9am.
After that we got our car from the rental company at the airport
and we drove all the way to Petra on the same day

We take the Desert Highway to Petra

Lunch at the local restaurant
After 2 hours drive we arrived at Wadi Mousa/Petra
The village of Wadi Mousa
The village is up in the hills
"The Valley of Moses" is also supposed to be the place
where in early Biblical times, Moses struck the rock
"to bring forth water"
